My Acre of Africa is honoured to be led by former South African President, Dr. Nelson Mandela, as Patron Emeritus.
In August 2002, Nelson Mandela appealed to a number of prominent members of the local and international communities to join him in patronage of My Acre of Africa.
The persons approached were members of the world community who have achieved respected positions through talent, dedication, passion, wisdom and experience.

Nelson Mandela is still the most positive and unifying figure in South Africa today.
Regardless of race or colour, South Africans who are divided on many issues share a common viewpoint when speaking of him.
He is often referred to by his clan name of ‘Madiba’ with great affection and respect. Knowing some of the details of Mr Mandela’s life can only increase your respect for him as a remarkable human being.

In December 7, 2003 respected film critic Roger Ebert said Theron’s performance in Monster was one of the greatest performances in the history of film. She won Best Actress at the 76th Academy Awards in February 2004, as well as the SAG Award and the Golden Globe Award. She is the first South African to win the Best Actress Academy Award.

Ernie is a South African professional golfer who has been one of the top professional players in the world since the mid-1990s. A former World No. 1, he is known as “The Big Easy” due to his imposing physical stature (he stands 1.90 metres) along with his fluid, seemingly effortless golf swing.

Mosima Gabriel Sexwale (born 5 March 1953), commonly known as Tokyo Sexwale, is a South African businessman and former politician, anti-apartheid activist, and political prisoner. His nickname of “Tokyo” is derived from his involvement with the sport of karate as a youth. A charismatic leader, Sexwale was imprisoned on Robben Island for his anti-apartheid activities, alongside figures such as Nelson Mandela. After the 1994 general election—the first universal franchise election in South Africa—Sexwale became the premier of Gauteng Province. On 10 May 2009, South Africa’s new President Jacob Zuma appointed the veteran Sexwale as Minister of Human Settlements.

Emeka Anyaoku was the third Commonwealth Secretary-General. He is currently President of the World Wide Fund for Nature.

Dr Player was educated at St. John’s College, Johannesburg, South Africa and served in the 6th South African Armoured Division attached to the American 5th Army in Italy 1944–46.
Together with his colleague and mentor, the late Magqubu Ntombela, he brought people from all walks of life and all parts of the world together to experience the importance of wilderness and the conservation thereof.
